  • Nov. 13, 2006 - Meeting included discussion of issues relating to human health and the environment. Presentations were provided by Dr. Robert Jacobs (University of Louisville), Dr. Bernhard Hennig (University of Kentucky), Dr. Lisa Gaetke (University of Kentucky) and Tim Hubbard (Kentucky Division of Waste Management).
  • Sept. 20, 2006 - Meeting included a recommendation regarding the noise advisory committee, approval of air quality regulations, approval of air quality redesignation requests, a presentation regarding recycling in Kentucky, a presentation regarding KY EXCEL and a discussion of formats and topics for EQC reports.
  • July 24, 2006 - Meeting included approval of underground storage tank regulations, discussion of the watershed protection approach and discussion of four meeting topics for the next year.
  • June 8, 2006 - Meeting included discussion of the legislative session, upcoming underground storage tank regulations, endorsement of the Statement of Mutual Intent for the Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative, discussion of the EQC annual meeting, the approval of a mountaintop removal resolution and discussion of a noise control advisory committee.
  • April 21, 2006 - Annual Earth Day Awards
  • February 13, 2006 - Meeting included discussion of air regulations, an update from the Clean Water Task Force, discussion of mountaintop removal and an update of upcoming legislation.

  • Sept. 28, 2005 - Public forum on mountaintop removal mining. Speakers from the environmental community, coal companies, state agencies, federal agencies and the surrounding community presented information to the commissioners on the particulars of this type of mining. (PDF)

  • May 26, 2005 - Kentucky Black Water Task Force findings and actions presented by Susan Bush, commissioner of the Department for Natural Resources. Also covered was a discussion and consideration of recommendations on Kentucky's Energy Plan and oil and gas drilling. (PDF)
  • March 10, 2005 - Kentucky Energy Strategy presented by Andrew V. McNeill. Oil and gas trends and issues presented by Rick Bender. (PDF)
  • Jan. 27, 2005 - John Lyons, director of the Kentucky Division for Air Quality, and Rebecca Farris, policy advisor for the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet, discussed the status of the state Air Toxics Task Force and the Mercury Task Force. EQC also reviewed 2005 legislative initiatives including a resolution to require emergency plans for high hazard coal and other surface impoundments. (PDF)

  • December 18, 2003 - EQC Annual Meeting where EQC discusses accomplishments of the year and sets goals for 2004. (PDF)
  • November 19, 2003 - The November meeting on oil and gas drilling in Kentucky in response to predictions that residential natural gas bills will rise to near record levels this winter. The commission invited state officials to review the oil and gas drilling trends in the state to assess if current regulatory rules are sufficient to protect the environment given the possibility of increased oil and gas production in Kentucky.   • July 15, 2003 - West Nile Virus and Pesticide Spraying. State efforts to control mosquitoes to minimize the spread of West Nile Virus have stepped up in recent years. EQC has compiled a Background report and held a public meeting on Mosquitoes and Pesticide Spraying. (PDF)
  • May 8, 2003 - Kentucky's Environmental Future. The State has laid out its vision for the future of Kentucky's Environment. Can Kentucky achieve these goals? EQC invited state officials and others to discuss the plan and its goals to improve environmental quality in Kentucky (PDF)
  • January 17, 2003- The focus of the January 17th EQC annual meeting was to review the accomplishments of the previous year and plan out the direction EQC will take in 2003. Budget issues were also discussed. (PDF)

2002

  • August 22, 2002- The focus of the Aug. 22 EQC public meeting was to discuss the future of clean water in Kentucky in recognition of the 30th anniversary of the Clean Water Act; one of the most significant environmental laws in Kentucky. (PDF)
  • July 30, 2002- The focus of the meeting was to review contaminated waste sites and state actions to address these sites. In Kentucky, hundreds of old or abandoned waste sites pose threats to the environment and public health. To date more than 3,000 potentially contaminated waste sites have been identified. Of the 2,500 sites investigated, 95 percent had confirmed contamination. An estimated 57 percent of these sites have been remediated by the state or responsible partie. (PDF)
  • May 31, 2002- The focus of the meeting was to brief the Commission about Maxey Flats Low-Level Radioactive Waste Superfund Site. Maxey Flats, a 280-acre low-level radioactive site is located in Fleming County, it opened in 1963 and closed in 1977 after groundwater contamination was detected leaking offsite. (PDF)
  • May 30, 2002 - The focus of the meeting was to review forestry issues and needs in Kentucky, and provide public comment regarding Kentucky's forest resources. (PDF)
  • March 21, 2002 - The focus of the meeting was to review environmental legislation of the 2002 session including power plant siting; solid waste legislation; Louisville's vehicle emission testing program; smart growth; and the proposed Pine Mountain Trail Park. (PDF)
  • September 25, 2001 - The purpose of the meeting was to review opportunities to promote growth and development in an environmentally sound manner. The economic boom, which began in 1992 and has been the longest in U.S. history, ending just this year, has helped to fuel economic expansion and growth across the Commonwealth. While this is good news, economic and population growth over the past decade have also contributed to urban sprawl, loss of farmland and the degradation of natural, cultural and environmental resources impairing the health and well-being of communities across the Commonwealth.   • August 2, 2001 - The purpose of the meeting was to review environmental spills, discuss roles and responsibilities in spill response, look for opportunities to prevent and better respond to spills, receive a status report on the Martin County Coal Slurry spill, and take action on the Ky. Division of Water's proposed concentrated animal feeding operation (CAFO) regulation. (PDF)
  • May 21, 2001 - The purpose of the meeting was to review several sets of proposed regulations, receive a briefing on the emergency concentrated animal feeding operation (CAFO) regulations, and receive a status report on the Martin County Coal slurry spill, and be provided an update on the state's investigation of the safety of coal slurry impoundments.
