Legal Secretary - Part-Time

Staff Attorney

Investigator
The Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Investigator for the Capital Trial Branch in Frankfort. The investigator will assist criminal defense attorneys in preparing cases for trial in the Department's Capital Trial Branch to indigent clients.
Applicants should have some criminal law, investigatory, or
related background. This is a merit position of Investigator Senior with a
salary range beginning at approximately $19,000 per year, depending on
experience, with full state benefits.
Recruiter
The Department of Public Advocacy is currently seeking applications for the position of Recruiter. The Recruiter will recruit new attorneys for DPA including all of the statewide field offices. This includes tracking open positions across the state, working closely with division directors, regional managers, directing attorneys, and branch managers to ensure their needs are met. The Recruiter will also conduct intake interviews and route potential candidates to the offices where they will be interviewed by the directing attorney or the division director. The Recruiter will serve as applicants'/new hires' liaison with DPA and other state agencies during the recruitment/appointment process. The Recruiter will be responsible for developing and conducting informational presentations at the area law schools to explain DPA's duties and to garner interest in becoming a public defender. In addition, the Recruiter will conduct on-campus interview sessions in the fall and spring semesters. Further, the Recruiter will be responsible for maintaining a database of prospective candidates and communicate with those candidates in a timely manner. The Recruiter will also perform other duties within Law Operations to meet, and in keeping with, the Division's mission. Employment law and computer skills desirable.

The Department's Capital Trial Branch is seeking a Death Penalty Litigator to assist in the provision of direct litigation services in capital trials and potential capital cases in the Commonwealth.
Successful candidate will possess a minimum of four years of significant criminal trial practice with major litigation, preferably capital trial experience. This position has salary beginning at $36,984, depending on experience. The directing attorney will direct the office, supervise employees, train inexperienced attorneys, and work with local privat attorneys to provide conflict counsel. Further, the directing attorney will maintain a caseload handled by the Maysville Field Office. The directing attorney will work with other directing attorneys, the regional manager, and the Trial Services Division Director to provide effective trial level representation to indigent clients and to promote the efficient functioning of the entire Department of Public Advocacy.
