KACF logoThe 2002 workshop, On Center at Centre, was held August 9 and 10, 2002, at Centre College in Danville. In an effort to make the workshop beneficial to veteran as well as beginning craftspeople, sessions were offered at both the beginning and the more advanced levels. Two workshops on glass were offered: hot glass and flame working, as well as three workshops on clay: porcelain, polymer clay, and mold making. A progressive fiber workshop was also held that addressed backgrounds, embellishments, and super-embellishments, with two notable Kentucky fiber artists as instructors. A session was also offered on the art of hand-tooled furniture making, specifically Windsor chair making.

“I wish my state had the vision and support Kentucky gives its artisans. This has been one of the best hands-on workshops I have ever attended,” said participant Kim Cavender of St. Albans, West Virginia.

The conference provided a unique opportunity for gathering and networking among artists who share in the creative energy generated at the event. Two events where this was most evident was the annual Rude Osolnik Award Dinner honoring the late Byron Temple and a special night-time glassblowing demonstration by nationally known Kentucky glass artist, Stephen Rolfe Powell.
