The National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts Launches Creative
Communities Consultant Corner
On-Line Resource Strengthens Arts Education Programming in Public Housing
Creative Communities
is an arts education, youth development and community building strategy
that expands access to high quality, progressive instruction in the performing,
literary and visual arts for children and youth living in public housing
communities in 20 states. Creative Communities works to improve quality
of life and promote skills leading to greater self-sufficiency. New to
the Creative Communities Web site, the Consultants
Corner lists national consultants that are available to support arts
education and community-building strategies. "The Consultants Corner further
supports our commitment to sowing seeds of Creative Communities sustainability
and replication," said Shawn Dove, Creative Communities Director. "This
is not only a resource for the 20 partnership sites, but for the entire
field of community arts education." The Consultant Corner currently lists
40 consultants who have expertise in areas such as: Artist-Teacher Training;
Partnership Building; Conflict Resolution; Curriculum and Training Materials
Development; Marketing and Community Outreach; Program Development; Volunteer
Management/Community Service Programs; Youth Development; Fund Raising;
and Evaluation.
The National Guild. of Community
Schools of the Arts, through a cooperative agreement with the National
Endowment for the Arts and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development,
is responsible for the overall implementation of the Creative Communities
Initiative in 20 states. Founded in 1937, The National Guild of Community
Schools of the Arts has over 320 member institutions serving more than
400,000 students through weekly instruction and tens of thousands more
through exposure in a multitude of arts activities. The Guild's mission
is to foster and promote broad access to high quality arts education to
meet community needs.
