Choirs from all over the Commonwealth will perform for the chance to be recognized as the finest gospel choir in Kentucky. |
During this past summer in Owensboro, Hazard, Paducah, Louisville, Bowling Green, Hopkinsville and Lexington, gospel choirs have participated in regional showcases to determine who would compete in the National City Great Kentucky Gospel Shout Out to be held Sunday, October 19 at a festival celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.
Choirs from all over the Commonwealth will perform for the chance to be recognized as the finest gospel choir in Kentucky. All choirs will perform gospel music from the roots of the African-American experience is the style of Mississippi Mass Choir, Kirk Franklin and James Cleveland. This is the first statewide showcase ever held and everyone is encouraged to come and support our excellent choirs. The showcase is free and open to the public.

Kentucky Center will celebrate twenty years of performing arts and arts
education with a five-day festival, October 15 to October 19: Wednesday,
October 15,- and Thursday, October 16 The Kentucky Center Arts and Culture
Festival Celebrate the region's arts and cultural community with two days
of exhibits, performances, displays and fun. Free and open to the public.

Shakespeare
in American Communities is a major initiative of the NEA in cooperation
with Arts Midwest to introduce a new generation of audiences to the greatest
playwright in the English language. This program will tour six professional
theatre companies across the nation for performances and educational activities.
In addition to the performances and community residencies, educational
activities will be augmented by a comprehensive teachers' toolkit developed
specially for Shakespeare in American Communities by the
National Endowment for the Arts.
On October 18, the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre will perform Romeo and Juliet for audiences in the Paducah area for the Four Rivers Center for the Arts. Throughout its history, Chicago Shakespeare Theater has received critical acclaim for artistic excellence and its accessible, creative approach to Shakespeare-the hallmarks of this company's work. Infusing the Theater's work with new vision, world-renowned guest artists, together with Chicago's finest actors, designers, and technicians, continue to create work of the highest artistic caliber. The Aquila Theatre Company from New York City will come to participate in the Greater Hazard Performing Arts Series with their production of Othello on November 10, 2003. Innovative and dynamic, the Aquila Theatre Company has gained a well-earned international reputation as one of the foremost producers of touring classical theatre. Under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Peter Meineck, Aquila presents fresh and inventive productions of classical drama without unnecessary textual compromise.
