Governor Fletcher will Reduce Cabinets from Fourteen to Eight.
Frankfort, KY: The Blue Ribbon Commission on Governmental Organization and Efficiency presented Governor Fletcher with a proposal today on organization of the executive branch. Under the plan cabinets will be reduced from fourteen to eight. Governor Fletcher will release the Blue Ribbon Commission report early next week with more specific detail about the reorganization.
Several weeks ago, Governor Fletcher charged the Blue Ribbon Commission with proposing a governmental structure for the executive branch that will serve as the framework to infuse efficiency into state government. Governor Fletcher has accepted the proposed structure for the executive branch of government that was recommended to him by the commission.
"First, I want to thank Bruce Lunsford and every member of this commission for their hard work and dedication to help ensure a more efficient and effective state government. They have worked tirelessly and have done an outstanding job. I am grateful for their work and dedication on this very important reorganization plan."

Bob Ramsey, John Hall, Alois Moore, Margaret Handmaker,
Bill Street, Cathy Bailey, the Honorable Mike Buchanan,
Dr. Lee Todd, ex officio, Dr. Jim Ramsey, ex officio, Dr.
Michael McCall, ex officio, John David Preston, ex officio,
General Counsel, John McCarthy's Staff and Andrew V. McNeill's
Staff.
"I have reviewed the structure presented to me by the Blue Ribbon Commission and believe that by reducing the cabinets from fourteen to eight there will be greater efficiency in state government. More importantly, I believe this will allow the appropriate agencies to coordinate and provide better services to citizens across this great Commonwealth. I will look forward to releasing this report in its entirety in the coming days and again want to that every member of this commission for their dedication to bringing greater efficiency to state government."
