John McCarthy to Serve as Special Advisor to the Governor for Personnel

Frankfort, KY: Governor Ernie Fletcher announced today that John McCarthy from Louisville will serve as Special Advisor to the Governor for Personnel. Since November of 1999, McCarthy has been the Director of Government Affairs for the law firm of McBrayer, McGinnis, Leslie & Kirkland (MMLK). In addition to his service to McBrayer, McGinnis, Leslie & Kirkland, McCarthy has been very active as a founding member of the Young Political Leaders of Kentucky, a statewide organization focused on recruiting and encouraging political involvement for young professionals.

"It is an honor to work with Governor Fletcher and each of the outstanding members of this team," stated John McCarthy. "I look forward to serving Kentucky in this capacity and in advising the Governor on important personnel decisions."

John McCarthy served as the Campaign Manager for Congressman Ron Lewis (R KY-2) successful special election and re-election in the fall of 1994 and as Political Director for the Republican Party of Kentucky ('92 to '94).  He also served as the Political Director for Sonny Bono's U.S. Senate Campaign ('92) and Larry Hopkins for Governor Campaign ('91).

McCarthy graduated from Centre College with a B.A. in Economics and Government and is a four-year letterman in football.  He is also a member of Board of Directors of the Centre Alumni Association.  John McCarthy's community involvement includes service as a former board member for the "Friends of the Louisville Free Public Library", a community organization that raises money and awareness for the Louisville Free Public Library. He is also a Board member for the Coalition for the Homeless in Louisville. McCarthy currently lives in Louisville with his wife Cynthia Lauren McCarthy and their three daughters.

"I am honored to have John McCarthy serve as my Special Advisor for Personnel," stated Governor Ernie Fletcher. "John has a tremendous deal of experience in managing and directing a number of important programs and initiatives throughout Kentucky and I look forward to his service in our administration."
