Governor Ernie Fletcher signs proclamation declaring
February "American Heart Month"
Frankfort, KY: First Lady of Kentucky Glenna Fletcher joined with the American Heart Association and women legislators today to launch "Go Red for Women," a new campaign to promote heart health for women.
As
part of the campaign, February 6th is "National
Wear Red for Women Day," red being the American Heart
Association's color for women and heart disease.
"As First Lady of Kentucky, my top priority is to help Kentuckians become more proactive when it comes to their health,"stated Glenna Fletcher. "Teaching women to take care of their hearts, and health, is one way to reach out. I am proud to be part of the Go Red for Women campaign."
The American Heart Association reports cardiovascular disease is to blame for thousands of deaths in Kentucky each year. The American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women" campaign is designed to help women recognize and reduce their risk for heart disease.
"The sad truth is that most people, including most women, are not aware that heart disease is the number one killer of women," said Julie Brackett, Senior Advocacy Director of the American Heart Association's Ohio Valley Affiliate. "That's what "Go Red for Women is all about; raising awareness and helping women take charge of their health."
Governor Ernie Fletcher also signed a proclamation today to raise awareness about the nation's number one killer, cardiovascular disease. The proclamation declares February "American Heart Month" will also raise the awareness of heart health.
"Many people don't realize that heart disease kills more people than the next seven common causes of death combined," stated Governor Ernie Fletcher. "Raising awareness about this silent killer will save lives."
Female lawmakers from both Kentucky House of Representatives and Kentucky Senate were also on hand to applaud the initiative.
