House Economic Development Committee Approves Two Vital Components of Governor Fletcher's Economic Plan

Frankfort, KY: Yesterday, the House Economic Development Committee heard and approved two vital components of Governor Ernie Fletcher's economic development agenda.  House Bill 609, the "Small Business Regulatory Fairness Initiative", sponsored by Representative Roger Thomas and Representative James Comer, passed out of committee yesterday as did House Bill 648, the "Kentucky Enterprise Initiative Act", sponsored by Representative Ruth Ann Palumbo and Representative Ron Crimm.

Governor Fletcher said in regards to the Small Business Regulatory Fairness Initiative, "This bill recognizes the vital role that small business plays in growing jobs and opportunity within the state.  We must work to create an environment that fosters small business growth.  HB 609 will help us do just that."

The Governor continued, "I applaud the efforts of Representative Thomas and Representative Comer.  Their leadership on this issue demonstrates their commitment to the small business community in Kentucky."

House Bill 648, The Kentucky Enterprise Initiative, creates incentives for capital construction and investment in research and development technologies.

"We must remain committed to growing our manufacturing economy while also moving into the New Economy," stated Governor Fletcher.  "This bill achieves the right balance between those objectives."

The Governor added, "I appreciate the dedication of Representative Palumbo and the contribution of Representative Crimm.  Clearly, both understand that the future of Kentucky requires balanced and progressive economic development policy, and the Kentucky Enterprise Initiative is an example of that."
