Governor Fletcher Directs That All State Offices and Buildings Be Closed in Memory of Former President Ronald Reagan

Frankfort, KY: At a news conference earlier today, Chief of Staff to the Governor Daniel Groves announced that, “In honor of the late Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States; out of respect for former President Reagan and the Office of the Presidency of this land of liberty and greatness; and in keeping with President Bush’s declaration, Governor Fletcher will execute an Order declaring Friday, June 11, 2004 a day of thanksgiving and remembrance in Kentucky. Therefore, state offices will be closed. Kentucky, the United States and the world will be forever indebted to Mr. Reagan and his great leadership.”

While attending a Bio-Conference in California, Governor Fletcher stated, "President Ronald Reagan was one of our nation's greatest leaders and will long be remembered for his courage and statesmanship as one of the greatest Presidents in our nation's history. I believe it is only appropriate that a day be set aside in reverence and thanksgiving to the memory of President Reagan as a great American patriot and leader of this country who profoundly changed the world by making it safer and freer and who gave hope and opportunity to millions of people throughout the world.”

Governor Fletcher continued “out of respect for President Reagan, flags across the Commonwealth will remain lowered at half-staff through July 5.”

Governor Fletcher and First Lady Glenna Fletcher will be attending the state funeral for former President Reagan on Friday in Washington, D.C.
