One to One with Bill Goodman:
Gov. Ernie Fletcher

aired April 25, 2006

Gov. Ernie Fletcher joins host Bill Goodman for this special one-hour edition of One to One. In a conversation aired live from the KET studios, the governor discusses the state budget for the upcoming biennium as well as a variety of other topics.

During the 2006 session of the General Assembly, lawmakers agreed on a state budget for the 2007/2008 biennium. But the extended negotiations required to reconcile the House and Senate versions left no time in the legislative calendar. So the General Assembly was left with no chance to reconvene to consider any gubernatorial vetoes, leaving Gov. Fletcher in the unusual position of having the last word on the spending plan through his line-item veto.

Fletcher announced his decisions in an address and press conference on April 24. KET’s coverage of the event, Gov. Ernie Fletcher’s Budget Veto Address, includes responses from Kentucky House Speaker Jody Richards and Senate President David Williams. The text of the address and details of the budget are posted on the governor’s web site.
