Governor Ernie Fletcher signs Executive Order naming southeastern Kentucky road after Daniel Boone
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher today signed an Executive Order naming U.S. 25 East in southeastern Kentucky after frontiersman Daniel Boone. The route will be officially named the "Daniel Boone-Cumberland Gap Wilderness Trail."
"Daniel Boone represents the spirit and bravery our state and our citizens have exhibited for more than 210 years," said Governor Fletcher. "I want to thank the legislators and the descendants of Daniel Boone for working with me to name part of the original Wilderness Road after Kentucky's pioneer son."
The section of U.S. 25 E named after Daniel Boone runs from the Cumberland Gap tunnels, near the point where Daniel Boone first entered Kentucky in 1769, west to Interstate 75 at Corbin. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will install signs Wednesday, August 10, designating the route as the "Daniel Boone-Cumberland Gap Wilderness Trail" near the southbound intersection with the Corbin by-pass and north of the Cumberland Gap tunnels.
