Flags to be lowered Wednesday in honor of Rosa Parks
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has directed flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday in memory of the late Rosa Parks.
The call for flags to be lowered follows a national directive from President George W. Bush.
"Rosa Parks served as a beacon of freedom and courage for millions of Americans through her grace and civility in standing up to the brutality of segregation at a time when forces were against her and her fellow African Americans," Governor Fletcher said. "We honor what she did a half century ago on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, and we are better because of her brave stand for justice."
