Television ad misrepresents Governor Ernie Fletcher's stand on Kentucky Marriage Amendment

Frankfort, KY:   WHAS-TV, WAVE-TV, WLKY-TV, and WDRB-TV in Louisville have stopped airing an advertisement from the "No on the Amendment" organization, due to misleading information regarding where Governor Ernie Fletcher stands on this important issue, the Kentucky Marriage Amendment.  Other stations in Lexington are considering taking similar action.

When referring to the amendment, the commercial falsely claims that Governor Fletcher "says it may have legal ramifications we don't even know about."  The commercial shows a picture of Governor Fletcher with the caption quote, "…we did not have legal evaluation…for all the ramifications."  Governor Fletcher's administration sent a letter to television stations yesterday, asking them to pull the ad immediately.

The fact is, the ad did not take the governor out of context; it blatantly misrepresented what he said.

While it is unfortunate that an organization chose to misrepresent the governor in this audacious manner, Governor Fletcher remains confident constituents know exactly where he stands on the marriage amendment.

"Marriage should only be between a husband and a wife," said Governor Fletcher.  "I have never wavered on this issue.   That is why on Election Day, I will vote yes on the Kentucky Marriage Amendment."
