FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Governor's Derby Breakfast, hosted by Governor Ernie Fletcher and First Lady Glenna Fletcher, serves as a springboard for a day of activities that leads to the "most exciting two minutes in sports,” the Kentucky Derby. The breakfast is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Derby Day, May 1, and returns to the Capitol after moving to downtown Frankfort for two years.
It is only fitting that the drama and color of the Kentucky Derby is captured in this year's official Governor's Derby Breakfast poster. The poster features a vivid photo by famed Kentucky photographer James Archambeault. The photo depicts three jockeys clad in bold racing silks riding seemingly inches apart as their glistening mounts stretch and strain to gain a lead.
The poster, which makes an excellent keepsake for the always-colorful breakfast, is available for purchase by mail for $18, postage and handling included. Checks may be made out to the Kentucky State Treasurer and mailed to Vicki Brown, Governor's Office, Room 102, 700 Capital Avenue, Frankfort, Ky. 40601. The poster also will be sold in a booth on the Capitol grounds during the Derby Breakfast. The price will be $15.
Free parking for the Derby Breakfast will be available at the CHR Complex, 275 E. Main St. A free bus shuttle service will operate between the CHR building, the Kentucky History Center in downtown Frankfort, and the Capitol. Hours are 6:30 a.m. to noon. Handicap parking will be available in the parking lot just west of the Capitol. More information on the celebration is available at: http://governor.ky.gov/specialevents/derbyday.htm.
