Governor Fletcher asks all Kentuckians to remember officers who have made ultimate sacrifice
Frankfort, KY: In honor of the federal, state, and local police officers who have been killed in the line of duty, Governor Ernie Fletcher has directed all flags to be flown at half-staff throughout the weekend
Saturday, May 15th is National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day. Flags at all government buildings are flown at half-staff on May 15th. The entire week of May 15th has been National Police Week since being signed into law in 1962.
In 2003, three officers in Kentucky were killed in the line of duty. Across the nation, 146 officers were slain.
"Law enforcement officers are among America's greatest heroes,” stated Governor Ernie Fletcher. "They put their own safety at risk while striving to protect our communities against crime, violence, and terrorism. National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day is our time to say thank you to these brave men and women and remember to keep the loving families they left behind in our thoughts and prayers.”
