Lieutenant Governor Tours Magoffin, Martin, Floyd and Johnson Counties

Frankfort, KY: For the second time in less than a week, Lieutenant Governor Steve Pence assessed storm damaged sites in several counties on Monday. Lieutenant Governor Pence took an aerial tour of Magoffin, Martin, Floyd, and Johnson counties and an onsite tour of Martin and Floyd to view the damage first hand. Sunday evening's storms forced the evacuation of many area residents from their homes and required closure of numerous roads throughout several counties.

Governor Ernie Fletcher declared a state of emergency in several Kentucky counties on Friday, following vicious storms that spawned tornados in several areas Thursday night.  Additional counties will be added to the state of emergency declaration later today.

"Through the destruction that I have witnessed first hand over the last week, I am most proud of the resolve that my fellow Kentuckians have shown in bringing their families and communities together,” stated Lieutenant Governor Pence. "The Governor and I have been in continuous contact regarding these storms and we are working with state and local emergency management officials to coordinate our efforts to provide the most possible relief in each of the affected counties.”
