House Bill 627 Moves Forward Out of the House of Representatives
Frankfort, KY: Governor Ernie Fletcher's rural broadband initiative took another significant step forward yesterday with the House of Representatives passing of House Bill 627. The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.
The bill is designed to create regulatory parity among competing broadband providers. This incentive is expected to lead to an expansion of broadband service to rural Kentucky. According to the Progressive Policy Institute, Kentucky ranks 41st in the nation in broadband deployment.
"This is another important step toward expanding broadband service to rural Kentucky,” stated Governor Ernie Fletcher. "I ask that the Senate move quickly to hear this legislation so Kentuckians can begin to realize the benefits of greater access to broadband technology.”
Governor Fletcher praised the leadership of the bill sponsor, Representative Tanya Pullin. "Representative Pullin built a bipartisan consensus that this is good, progressive policy for Kentucky. Her work on the bill deserves to be commended.”
