House Bill 650 Passes Out of Senate Banking and Insurance Committee
Frankfort, KY: Governor Fletcher's efforts to make Kentucky's health care insurance market more competitive took another significant step forward yesterday with the passage of House Bill 650 by the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee. The bill will now move to the Senate floor for consideration.
"A central issue in my campaign was to bring health care insurance providers back to Kentucky,” stated Governor Fletcher. "This is a first, yet significant, step in achieving that goal.”
Governor Fletcher wrote in his Prescription for Kentucky that "the lack of competition (in Kentucky's health insurance market) has led to higher premiums and limited access. As Governor, I will work to enhance Kentucky's health insurance market to bring back competition, which will ultimately lower rates and increase access.”
"I ask that the Senate act quickly to pass House Bill 650. The sooner we do, the sooner Kentuckians will start realizing the benefits of a more competitive health insurance market in Kentucky,” said Governor Fletcher.
The Governor also plans to convene a forum with health insurance providers to determine what other measures must be taken to bring competition back to Kentucky's insurance market.
