Governor Fletcher, Bipartisan Leaders Welcome Support of the Kentucky Hotel and Lodging Association

Frankfort, KY: With yet another group displaying their support for Governor Ernie Fletcher's bipartisan, bicameral tax modernization proposal, the Kentucky Hotel and Lodging Association announces its support for the JOBS for Kentucky plan. The trade association is concerned with the need to promote tourism and convention opportunities for the state. Kentucky's tourism industry is the states third largest revenue producing industry and the Commonwealth's second largest employer.

"The Kentucky Hotel and Lodging Association supports Governor Fletcher's tax modernization proposal because it will allow Kentucky to market and promote tourism in the state more effectively,” stated Bob Desai, President of the Kentucky Hotel and Lodging Association. "We look forward to working with the Governor to advance this tax plan and we thank Governor Fletcher for taking the initiative to address this important issue.”

The Kentucky Hotel and Lodging Association works with Kentucky hoteliers to promote the industry and address problems of mutual concern. For the past several years, occupancy levels in Kentucky's hotels have been in decline, therefore, the association believes stronger efforts are needed to boost this important segment on Kentucky's economy.

"I am very pleased to have the support of this organization that understands the importance of tourism in Kentucky and its affects on job creation in the Commonwealth,” stated Governor Ernie Fletcher. "Tourism is currently the state's second largest employer and Kentucky's third largest revenue-producing industry and it is essential that we have a dedicated funding mechanism that will work to promote this great state.”
