FRANKFORT, Ky. — Artists from across the Commonwealth have been invited by Governor Ernie Fletcher and First Lady Glenna Fletcher to display their work in the Governor's Mansion in "Kentucky Visions 2004,” a gallery exhibition coordinated by the Kentucky Arts Council.
"Kentucky has a vast wealth of artistic talent that deserves to be showcased,” stated Mrs. Fletcher. "As we welcome Derby guests from around Kentucky and the entire country into the Governor's Mansion, we encourage them to view some of the most spectacular artwork Kentucky has to offer.”
Featuring the work of 27 artists, Kentucky Visions will open on April 19 and continue through the Governor's Derby Breakfast Celebration on Saturday, May 1. The exhibit is open to the public during mansion tour hours, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9-11 a.m. (Groups need to call ahead for appointment at 502-564-3449).
On Derby Day, shuttles will run between the Capitol and Mansion grounds, the Kentucky History Center and the Cabinet for Human Resources parking lot, 275 E. Main St. The Governor's Mansion and the exhibit will be open to the public from 7-11 a.m. during the Governor's Derby Breakfast. More information on the breakfast is available at http://governor.ky.gov/specialevents/derbyday.htm.
Works included in "Kentucky Visions 2004” are available for purchase with the total purchase price going directly to the artist. The exhibit is in its eighth year; this year's artists were invited from those that had been previously selected for "Kentucky Visions” by independent jurors such as Lori Kornegay, University of Charleston (2003); Timothy Weber, Tennessee Arts Commission (2002); and René Paul Barilleaux, Mississippi Museum of Art (2001).
Many of the artists have been selected numerous times for the exhibit. Artwork included in the exhibit and information on the artists can also be viewed as part of the Kentucky Arts Council's Virtual Gallery at http://www.artscouncil.ky.gov.
