ELIZABETH GILL OWSLEY (1787-1858, 16th First Lady) married her schoolteacher William Owsley in 1803. They lived in Garrard County and in Frankfort. Her term in office was a stormy one. He dismissed a popular secretary of state, who then charged Owsley with giving offices to “the governor’s daughter, grandson, and others of the connection.” When his term expired, the Owsleys moved to Boyle County.
Miss Joan Miller, Covington, made this dress. The sponsor was the Lexington Woman’s Club.
