Welcome
The Kentucky Department for the Blind is a state government rehabilitation agency that offers assistance to persons who are blind or visually impaired. We also provide various services for employers interested in accommodating or hiring workers who have a vision loss.

Our Mission
Our mission is to provide opportunities to individuals with visual disabilities for employment and independence. We are available to provide assistance to persons with visual disabilities in their effort to become more independent and productive in the workplace, community, school, and home.

If you have a vision loss, or know someone who does, contact the Kentucky Department for the Blind office nearest you to determine eligibility for services.  If you are an employer interested in hiring new workers or helping your current employees who are visually impaired, call our nearest office. At the Charles McDowell Center in Louisville, Kentuckians with visual impairments learn various skills from how to shop for food and navigate public transportation, to operating a computer.  Some live at the Center while receiving vocational counseling and personal adjustment services that help them move toward individual goals.
