Frankfort, Ky. - For the
20th year, Kentucky craftspeople will join the annual Governor’s
Derby Breakfast festivities, in Frankfort. Twenty-eight juried participants of
the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program, will offer their unique craft works for
sell, on May 4th, from 7 a.m. to 12 noon (or, until crowds
dissipate). One very important
change in this year's breakfast is the move from the Capitol grounds to historic
downtown Frankfort. Craft exhibitors’ booths will be located on the St. Clair
Street mall area and on the Old Capitol grounds. As always, this special event is free
and open to the public.
“Judi and I are very pleased to have this
wealth of talent to share with the world at the Derby Breakfast,” Patton said.
“In showcasing our state on this day, we knew we needed to invite the many
talented artists from around the state.”
Kentucky artists will feature a variety of
contemporary and traditional handmade crafts including, ceramics; baskets;
jewelry; clothing; soft sculpture; small wooden furniture; walking sticks;
glass; metal work, etc. Derby breakfast exhibitors’ works will also be featured
in the Capitol display case for public viewing prior to the event.
The annual Derby Breakfast also offers live
entertainment, “Kids Korner,” souvenir photographs, and more. The free
breakfast, featuring traditional Southern Fare, will be served picnic-style from
large tents located on the Old State Capitol grounds and the old train station
on Broadway across from the Kentucky History Center. Picnic tables, benches, and chairs will
be scattered throughout the breakfast area, with special senior citizen seating.
The Kentucky History Center will be open and will host displays by many Kentucky
Renaissance cities, while the new History Center garden will feature live
performances sponsored by the Kentucky Folklife Program. Guests are encouraged
to park behind the Cabinet for Human Resources (CHR) building at 275 E. Main St.
and use the free shuttle service running to and from the downtown area. The
shuttle will run from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Kentucky Craft Marketing
Program is a state agency in the Kentucky Arts Council, Education, Arts &
Humanities Cabinet, Commonwealth of Kentucky. For more information, call 888 KY CRAFT
