Frankfort, Ky. - For the 20th year, Kentucky craftspeople are taking part in the annual Governor’s Derby Breakfast. Twenty-eight exhibitors, all juried members of the Craft Marketing Program, will show and sell their crafts on the Capitol grounds from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Derby Day, May 5, 2001.
The exhibitors will feature Kentucky crafts including: ceramics; baskets; hand-dyed hooked rugs; corn shuck dolls; stained glass and metalwork.
The
craftspeople participating in the breakfast are from communities throughout
Kentucky like Richmond, Monticello and Salvisa.
“They enjoy the crowds at the breakfast and the opportunity to meet new
people.” said Fran Redmon, Craft Marketing Program Director. “The Derby
Breakfast gives the artists great exposure and allows Kentuckians the
opportunity to purchase items with Kentucky Crafted quality.”
Since 1981, the Craft Marketing Program has worked to expand the state’s craft industry, creating an economically viable environment for craftspeople while preserving the state’s craft traditions and generating public awareness. The Program is a division of the Kentucky Arts Council; Education, Arts, and Humanities Cabinet.
Along with craft sales, the annual Derby Breakfast offers live entertainment, hot air balloons, a children’s area and more. The breakfast is free and open to the public, and features traditional Southern fare, served under a large tent on the Capitol grounds.
