28 Kentucky Craftspeople Exhibit at Governor’s Derby Breakfast in Frankfort

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- For the 19th year, 28 Kentucky craftspeople, juried participants of the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program, will offer their crafts on Capitol grounds at the Governor’s Derby Breakfast from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Derby Day, May 6.

Crafts offered for sale will range from traditional Shaker accessories, wooden utensils and folk art to contemporary jewelry, glass and  pottery.

“Kentuckians and visitors alike always look forward to the handmade crafts at the Governor’s Derby Breakfast," said Fran Redmon, Kentucky craft marketing program director. "The crafts have become a mainstay of the breakfast. From year-to-year, visitors can expect a variety of new items, all consistent with Kentucky Crafted quality. And it's also a successful and enjoyable retail venue for our craftspeople.”

This year’s exhibitors include 15 who are participating for the first time.

Craft sales aren't the only attraction for the annual Derby Breakfast. The celebration will include hot air balloons, live entertainment, a children’s area and more. New this year are driving tours of historic downtown Frankfort. Tour buses will run on the half-hour, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. The buses will pick up and return guests at the corner of Capitol Avenue and West Todd Street.

And, of course, there's the food itself -- a full menu of delicious Southern fare, served up under a huge tent on the Capitol grounds.

The Governor’s Derby Breakfast is free and open to the public. Due to congestion around the Capitol, parking is recommended at the Human Resources Building on Martin Luther King Boulevard, or Juniper Hills Park on Louisville Road, in Frankfort. Shuttle buses will run from parking areas to the Capitol from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Kentucky Craft Marketing Program is a division of the Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the Education, Arts and Humanities Cabinet.
