Governor’s Derby Breakfast Entertainers
Angela
Bartley: This charming bugler brings us the sights and sounds of the Kentucky
Derby with her “Call to the Post.” The
Louisville resident has been “bugling” her way through Derby events for over
ten years, including appearances at Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby
Festival. Angela will treat us to
unique renditions of many popular songs.
Sharon
Beavers and the Double “D” Dancers: Sharon, a native of Hardin County, is a
fresh, young talent with a huge voice. She
performs across the Commonwealth and beyond and has had the honor to share the
stage with Country Music greats: Ricky Van Shelton, Exile, Johnny Paycheck,
Ronnie McDowell, and many others. The
Double “D” Dancers accompany Ms. Beavers with eye-catching steps.
Capital
City Chorale: This Frankfort Community based choir have tallied performances at
Capital Expo, The Frankfort Christmas Candlelight Tour, and many other Frankfort
venues. The group allows community
members the opportunity for continuing musical and performance experience.
The Chorale is led by Mr. Gary Johnson.
The
Clogging McClain Clan: The McClain Clan promises fans of all ages a toe-tapping
good time! The group has
participated at prominent festivals all over the world, such as: The World Folk
Festival in Belgium, The United States Governor’s Convention, The Kentucky
Derby, and Ricky Skaggs’ Bicentennial New Year’s Eve Television Show. The group is based in Georgetown.
The
Country Rockers: These 30+ members are a cut above the average dance troop!
They have three appearances on TNN’s Wildhorse Dance Club under their
belts, but what makes the group extraordinary is their commitment to charity,
playing hosts every year to “Toys for Tots” and “Food Baskets for the
Needy” charity drives.
The
Cumberland Highlanders Show: Bluegrass Music’s only national television show
takes center stage at this year’s Derby Breakfast! The band, which is led by Dr. Campbell Mercer, a native of
London, KY, is made up of past members of Bill Munroe’s Bluegrass Boys, The
Wilson Brothers, and the original Cumberland Highlanders of Laurel County.
Lindsey
Marks and Toni Lynn Moffit: The reigning Miss Capital City and Miss Capital of
the Commonwealth are eagerly awaiting their opportunities to represent Frankfort
in the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Pageant, where one lucky young lady from the
Commonwealth will have the opportunity to follow in the foot steps of Heather
French by competing at the Miss America Pageant in October.
Miss Marks is an 18 year old graduating senior at Franklin County High
School with plans to attend Louisville University in the fall.
Miss Moffit is a 21 year old junior at the University of Kentucky,
studying interior design. She is a
resident of Nicholasville. The duo
will be performing a wide variety of songs.
Mellow
Strings: This unique group of musicians will entertain and enlighten any crowd
with their ensemble of traditional country folk instruments.
The group is based in Frankfort.
The
Mountain Echos: The Echos are a relatively newly formed band, but have a
combined total of fifty years experience. The
group, whose members are all from Central Kentucky, play a mixture of music with
an emphasis on country and old mountain songs.
The
Pike County Performing Arts Show Choir: Pike County’s Show Choir is made up of
students in grades 5 through 12 that represent 12 schools in Pike County.
The choir has had the honor of performing at such venues as King’s
Island, Opryland, Walt Disney World’s Starlite Showcase, Macy’s Thanksgiving
Day Parade, and Branson’s Jubilee National Music Festival.
Most recently, the choir had the honor of serving as the “Showcase
Choir” at the SHOWSTOPPERS National Show Choir Competition in San Diego,
California during April of 2000. The
group is under the leadership of Heather R. Linton and Tammy May.
Stephen
Foster Singers: The Forty-second season of Stephen Foster--the Musical will run
this summer at my Old Kentucky Home
State Park in Bardstown. This
outdoor musical depicts the life and times of Stephen Collins Foster, including
many of his famous melodies, colorful period costumes, and lively choreography.
The Stephen Foster Singers are known throughout Kentucky and the world
for their beautiful renditions of the songs from “America’s favorite outdoor
musical.”
