Governor Paul Patton unveiled a sign that dedicates a 348-acre preserve on the grounds of the Pine Mountain Settlement School in Harlan County to the memory of Gen. James E. Bickford, who served as secretary to the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet until his death in 2002.  The exceptional natural area located on the north face of Pine Mountain was named for Bickford on June 30.  From left are: Shirley Bickford, General Bickford's widow, Clara Wheatley, chair of the Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission, Dr. James M. Greene III, a trustee of the settlement school, Hank List, who serves as secretary of the cabinet, Governor Patton and U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers .
