GOVERNOR PATTON ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL FLOOD MONEY ALLOCATIONS

Frankfort, Ky. - Governor Paul Patton today announced how the remaining flood relief money appropriated last month will be distributed across Kentucky.

That money comes from the more than $4 million set aside to be allocated by Governor Patton from an initial appropriation of $15 million from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The federal funds were sent to Kentucky in August to begin the repair of cities and towns across the state devastated by this spring's flooding.

After meeting with officials from the Transportation Cabinet, the Department of Local Government, and Disaster and Emergency Services, Governor Patton announced the total allocations for each county and their cities and entities.

The money will be distributed in four different forms.

Most of the money, totaling $1.6 million, will be distributed as Supplemental Public Assistance Funding. This funding will reduce from 13% to 5% the amount each county must pay to match federal relief money. Supplemental Hazard Mitigation Funding, which accounts for $1.1 million, will complete the payment of already approved buyout projects. Recipients of Special Community Assistance Grants, totaling just more than $1.2 million, go to cities and counties that were not specifically addressed by the HUD grants. Governor Patton said these grants were a way he could directly help Kentuckians in need.

Finally, almost $70,000 were allocated through Supplemental Hazard Mitigation Projects, which will provide the local matching funds for state and federal buyout projects that were already identified but unfunded.

Governor Patton said, "I hope this money will help out those Kentuckians who are in need of more assistance after the devastation of this spring's flooding. Hard work alone cannot rebuild our towns, cities, and homes."
