Governor Paul Patton today named four women and four men to serve on the Board of Regents of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), to govern 13 of the University of Kentucky's community colleges and the 25 Kentucky TECH schools. Governor Patton said, "this new system will have almost 60 thousand students, a budget of over $200 million, operating 38 main campuses with a presence in about two-thirds of Kentucky's counties. This is an historic occasion, and I express my appreciation to all who've agreed to serve on this board."

The eight appointees are:

John R. Banks, Jr., Hopkinsville. Banks is a Postmaster in Dunmor, Kentucky. He's a graduate of Christian County High School. He studied business at Austin Peay State University and at Hopkinsville Community College. Banks, an Army veteran, is also active in the NAACP and the Chamber of Commerce Minority Economic Development initiative. He will serve a three year term on the Board.

Richard A. Bean, Louisville. Bean is Senior Vice President, Construction and Development Lending, for Bank of Louisville. He's a graduate of the University of Kentucky, with a BS in Commerce, and former president of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association. He serves on the Jefferson Community College Advisory Board. Bean is a past president of the Louisville Mortgage Bankers Association and the Mortgage Bankers Association of Kentucky, and is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America. He's currently serving in his 14th year as Director of the Home Builders Association of Louisville, and is a past director of the National Association of Home Builders. He will serve a four year term on the KCTCS Board.

Michael S. Hoseus, Lexington. Hoseus is an Assistant General Manager in Human Resources at Toyota. He's a graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati, where he earned a degree in Psychology and Business. Hoseus is a board member of Partners for Youth, a program affiliated with the Lexington Mayor's Office. He will serve a two year term on the KCTCS Board.

Martha C. Johnson, Ashland. Johnson is employed as the Director of Corporate Communication Relations and Public Policy Analysis for Ashland, Inc. She holds an Associate Degree in Journalism from Ashland Community College and a Bachelors degree in Public Relations from Western Kentucky University. Johnson is a graduate of the School of Bank Marketing at the University of Colorado, and attended both the Louisiana State University

Graduate School of Banking and the Executive Development Program at Indiana University. Johnson serves on the Ashland Community College Advisory Board. She will serve a six year term on the KCTCS Board.

Lorna B. Littrell, Henderson. Littrell is Secretary/Treasurer of Sunshine Tool and Die, Inc. She's a graduate of Henderson County High School. Littrell is a member of the Henderson County Economic Development Retention and Expansion Committee and Henderson Area Kentucky TECH Advisory Board. She's also President of the Henderson County Industrial Education Alliance and a member of the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce. Littrell will serve a three year term on the KCTCS Board.

Diana L. Lutz, Madisonville. She's employed as a Claim Representative for the Social Security Administration. She holds an Associate Degree in Arts from Madisonville Community College. Lutz also was graduated from the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, with a BA in Journalism. Lutz also has attended Western Kentucky University. Lutz will serve a one year term on the Board.

Cynthia L. Read, Louisville. She's employed as an Education Coordinator at United Parcel Service Airlines. Read holds a BA in Comparative Literature from Princeton University. Read is on the executive board for Community Coordinated Child Care and serves as the Community Engagement Chair for the Middle School Coalition. She's currently the president of an elementary school Parent-Teacher Association, and is the former president of Friends of the Louisville Free Public Library. Read will serve a five year term on the Board.

Marvin D. Russow, Mt. Washington. He's a union representative with United Food and Commercial Workers Local 227. He's a graduate of Palatine High School in Illinois, and attended Harper Community College , as well as the George Meany Center for Labor Studies. He's currently a member of the UFCW International Union Advisory Board and the Labor Chairperson for the Metro United Way. Russow will serve a six year term on the Board.

The KCTCS Board of Regents will be sworn in at the first meeting of the group, set for Monday, July 21st, at 2:00 p.m., Room 110, the Capitol. Six more board members, representing student, staff and faculty from the community colleges and tech schools will be chosen, in a process to be determined by the KCTCS Board. "We have not yet changed the postsecondary education system in Kentucky one bit. The success of this venture will depend on these and other people we appoint to administer these autonomous institutions," Governor Patton said.
