Patton issues “Enhancement” funds to help communities

FRANKFORT, Ky. - Governor Paul Patton today announced more than $5 million for 32 Federal Transportation Enhancement grants aimed at providing funds for non-traditional transportation projects that enhance the state’s roadsides.

“Our highways not only provide our citizens with a safe method of transportation, but they are also a part of the landscape of our communities,” Patton said.  “The Transportation Enhancement Funds provide us with a method of enhancing the beauty of our roadsides and our state.”

The Transportation Cabinet administers the TEA-21 program and has provided more than $94 million to approximately 280 enhancement projects. Some of the funding goes to support Renaissance Kentucky communities.  The current funded programs range from the Springfield Opera House to the McLean County Civil War Battlefield.
