Special for the City of Elizabethtown
For Immediate Release

Frankfort, Ky. (July 27, 2001) -- Gov. Paul Patton announced today that the city of Elizabethtown is receiving $350,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to support the Advocacy and Support Center Development Project.

The Kentucky Department for Local Government (DLG) administers the CDBG program in Kentucky.

The Advocacy and Support Center provides services to adult and child victims of sexual assault and abuse and adult survivors of incest and sexual abuse in the Lincoln Trail region, which includes Breckinridge, Grayson, Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson and Washington counties.

Gov. Patton said, “The Advocacy and Support Center currently does not have adequate facilities and equipment for forensic medical examinations and interviewing; clients are often referred to Louisville, Lexington and Covington.

“Funding this project will provide a facility that is easily accessible to the population it serves, with confidential, and improved examination and interviewing spaces,” said Gov. Patton.

Project activities include the purchase of a 1,298 square foot building for the center. Upon acquisition of the building, the city will construct a 2,020 square foot addition to the building to serve the growing population of the Lincoln Trail Area Development District.

DLG Commissioner Jody Lassiter said commitment for the project is evident. “The 2000 state biennium budget provided funding for one Children’s Advocacy Center in each area development district. This center received $118,000.

“Plus, this project is supported by all the communities the center will serve and the Cabinet for Families and Children,” added Lassiter.

CDBG funds are made available through the Kentucky Department for Local Government (DLG) by the federal Department for Housing and Urban Development.
