Gov. Patton said the new courses represent the administration's commitment to improving Eastern Kentucky's economy through tourism. He also noted the value of golf courses as recreational resources for local residents.

"These parks already play an important role in enhancing the quality of life of this area," Gov. Patton noted. "When the courses are open for play in 2003, the parks will play an even greater role in enriching the lives of Eastern Kentuckians."

Gov. Patton then traveled to Grayson Lake to celebrate the start of construction on a $5 million par 72 course measuring 7,055 yards. Portions of the course will include scenic views of Grayson Lake.
