Frankfort,
Ky. (August 6, 2001) – Gov. Paul Patton announced today that the city of
Carrsville will receive $37,240 from the federal Land and Water Conservation
Fund for a boat dock and riverfront development project.
The
Kentucky Department for Local Government (DLG) administers the National Park
Service’s Land and Water Conservation program, which is used for land
acquisition for recreational development, construction of new outdoor
facilities, and renovation of existing facilities.
Gov.
Patton said, “Providing recreational opportunities to Kentuckians is important
to our general health and well being; it improves our quality of life. I’m
delighted that many of our communities go after this kind of funding; it shows
that local folks care about themselves and their communities.”
These
funds will be used to develop the riverfront, including a dock for the Taxi, a
parking lot and walking trails.
DLG
Commissioner Jody Lassiter reiterated the governor’s comments. “The
department received 97 applications from local governments throughout the state
and we were able to fund one-third of them.
“I
encourage communities that did not receive funding during this competitive round
to re-apply for next year’s funds,” he said.
City
and county governments, and state and federal agencies are eligible to compete
for the $1.3 million allocation for Kentucky.
A
statewide Land and Water Conservation Fund Advisory Committee, composed of
individuals with different recreational backgrounds, review and score the
applications and make recommendations for funding.
