FRANKFORT, KY (August 26, 2003) - Governor Paul E. Patton has issued an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency as a result of devastating thunderstorms producing 5-6 inches of rain within a 90-minute period in Franklin County resulting in two deaths.  The storm did extensive damage to homes, personal property, power outages, crop losses and road closures.

The counties of Franklin, Bullitt and Spencer have declared local emergencies.  The Kentucky Division of Emergency Management shall coordinate the response and relief activities of all state agencies and private relief organizations in response to this emergency.

The Kentucky Division of Emergency Management has requested affected counties to expedite local damage assessment.  The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will begin preliminary damage assessment as early as Thursday on the heavily affected areas pertaining to personal property, particularly Franklin County.
