 Statement from Governor Paul Patton regarding the death of former Governor Edward T. “Ned” Breathitt:

            Kentucky has lost a statesman; a dedicated public servant who improved our state on many fronts.  As governor, Ned Breathitt left a positive mark on Kentucky’s educational system, environment, and economy.  He showed remarkable courage at a time when change was difficult to accomplish in the area of civil rights; leading Kentucky to become the first state in the south to enact a comprehensive civil rights statute.  His actions and accomplishments extended throughout his lifetime and have left an enormous impact on each of us.  He will be missed.
