Celebration
of Hope for Breast Cancer Survivors May 5 in Frankfort
First Lady Judi Patton hosts her Celebration of Hope for
survivors of breast cancer in Frankfort at the Farnham Dudgeon Convention Center
on Monday, May 5 at 1:30 p.m.
What began six years ago as an afternoon tea at the
Executive Mansion has expanded to an event that had more than 700 participants
in 2002. A list that began
with several hundred names of survivors is now a growing database of nearly
3,000 names of women from all across Kentucky.
The Celebration of Hope, the Kentucky Breast Cancer
Coalition and the Governor’s Task Force on Breast Cancer are three endeavors
aimed at raising awareness and early detection of breast cancer and at
supporting and promoting availability, access and quality of care for women
throughout the state. Kentucky now
has a law on the books that guarantees that insurance companies operating in the
state provide reconstruction services to women who undergo mastectomies as a
result of breast cancer. County health departments provide mammography services to
under-insured or uninsured women.
The invitation, photos from past celebrations and
additional information about the Celebration of Hope are located at http://gov.state.ky.us/derby/2003/derby2003.htm.
Ample parking is available adjacent to the convention
center in two covered parking lots. Television satellite trucks may park at the rear of the
convention center just off of St. Clair Street.
